Aside from pursuing a true passion in this business, another beautiful thing this time has given me is an opening to focus on domesticity. I'm cooking again, which I haven't done in about a decade, and I'm spending more time with my son, Leo.
This brings me to a lot of listening to the music from Disney's Encanto, and one lyric, in particular, has been stuck in my head:
"I'm so sick of beautiful, I want something true, don't you?"
That line hit me hard because it's not just a great lyric; it's a perfect description of my life right now. Even with no paying clients, which is a goal I'm trying to fix, I'm living more authentically now than I have since college. I'm trading the "beautiful" idea of a traditional career path for the "true" reality of building something I believe in and being more present for my family.
And that's a beautiful thing worth fighting for.
